Objectives
The general objective of this research project is to generate scientific knowledge that will allow the development of a methodological framework based on hybrid downscaling techniques for the analysis of the danger of oil spills in the coastal strip, considering as such the inland waters and the territorial sea (< 12 nautical miles).
To achieve this general objective, the following specific objectives are proposed :
- Research and develop hybrid downscaling techniques for the simulation and historical reconstruction of currents at coastal and local scales (ports, bays and estuaries).
- Investigate the application of classification techniques and machine learning methods to optimize probabilistic modeling of coastal spills.
- To develop a methodology based on artificial intelligence techniques for the simulation and prediction of hydrodynamic variables and the analysis of the danger of contamination by oil spills in the coastal strip.
- Validation of the developed methodology and uncertainty estimation through hydrodynamic campaigns and drifting buoy exercises.
- Application of the methodology in the Bay of Biscay at two different scales: coastal scale and local scale.
